Weird that it says in the description printed, "He led a small band of pioneers into the great unknown west in 1847...." hmmmm, if you call thousands of people 'small'... I guess?!

Salt Lake Temple #8174, $.02 stamp and postmarked May 12,1918

addressed to Mrs. Mat Hull in Tarinton, Iowa

Along Temple Wall, Salt Lake City, #469, postmarked 7/23/1909, addressed to Miss Grace Parr at 201 W 3rd Avenue in Oksaloosa, Iowa. "My Dear Grace, Receive of your two postals. Thanks very much for the birch bark, it is a great novelty. Having a good time? I am sure you are.

8-Night Scene "Mormon" temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, #10,003 post marked Monday, March 11, 1951, with a $.01 stamp addressed to Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Hull in New Sharon, Iowa Box 81, "How are you doubt you are thinking this is a pretty picture How is the weather in IA I am thinking of going home when it gets warmer. I don't like this J.R. now, so who knows about the weather it looks so nice but today we got your long letter - you will be hearing from us soon. We are well and hope you are too and keep taking care of your arem. Love from Tudie.

Sorry Gramps... I am about 22 years late, but I finally did it

The Young Women's Organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was founded by my Great Great Great Grandfather Brigham Young in 1869. 

Originally, he challenged the new and young charter members, his daughters, to:

• Grow spiritually
• Resist idleness and gossip
• Retrench from the styles of the world in dress and deportment
• Simplicity in living
• Cultivate the mind

17 years later, a training program began to be held the same weekend as General Conference leading to the first annual summer Conference for Young Men and Young Women in 1888.

51 years later, an annual theme was introduced and was to be memorized and recited at each MIA meeting.

70 years later the incentive program was turned over to be recognized in Sacrament meetings to the qualifying youth.

90 years later, the youth began receiving their own insert to the monthly magazine that was already distributed to adult members.

110 years later, the governing board of 12 women encouraged:

• Prepare to perform
• Develop a personal testimony of Jesus
• Study the scriptures
• Share the truth
• Keep personal diaries
• Gather family history and genealogy
• Set educational goals
• Strengthen families

In 1984, the Young Women's President introduced 7 values, each with a symbolic color and definitive direction: Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worship, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, and Integrity.

121 years later, the organization was 1 million strong!

In 2008, the theme was updated to say:

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us, and we love Him. We will 'stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places' (Mosiah 18:9) as we strive to live the Young Women values, which are: Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, Integrity, and Virtue. We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values, we will be prepared to strengthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple, and enjoy the blessings of exaltation

I began going to church about 22 years ago when my mother became active again, after many years away.  The problem I faced though is the 14 years prior that built a foundation which was very difficult to steer away from.  Through highschool I did attend one complete year of seminary, attended some dances, two summers at girls' camp, but I failed to earn my young women's medallion through the Personal Progress program, normally earned from the ages of 12-18.  It didn't really bother me until I became a mother and also read through the requirements and realized the importance of the program.  Earlier this year, Alyssa and I were introduced to the goal and I knew I must seek after these value experiences and projects - for myself.

75 days ago, I began the final project in the Virtue value.  I finished reading the Book of Mormon this morning.  I can't stop thinking the words, "there is just no way this book was made up by Joseph Smith, absolutely NO WAY he could have conjured this up."  Over the years, I have lived the other life and at the time, I thought I was having a blast.  Now, I know what the other side feels like, the better than 'blast' kind of feelings, the eternal kind of happiness called joy.  I know this church couldn't have survived the persecutions it did, without the solid support of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I feel it, that is why I say I know.  I can't deny it, I have tried, trust me.  I looked for many ways to opt out, because if you are looking for an easy church to attend, THIS IS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU.  This isn't for the faint in heart.  It isn't always convenient, fun, or popular either. It is an eternal committment.  But through the years, I couldn't stop wondering, why are all these people willing to do all these hard things?  What is the big deal anyway?  And I just couldn't keep away, I wanted what they had.  I wanted to know why they treasured the Book of Mormon and now I do, I know because it feels pure.  And so here I am, here to stay, enjoying my journey that HE has given me to experience.  I am so grateful for the Personal Progress program that truly enriched my life this year. 

This WAS MY year!!  I grew.  I learned. I felt. I struggled. And now I can say after years of resistance; with a smile, with tears of understanding, with appreciation, and purpose;

 

I am an eternal companion to my husband, 

I am a mother,

I come from divine parentage,

I can do hard things,

I am a Mormon.

Seek Knowledge By The Spirit

You may remember last year when we presented our daughter with a Back To School star with an assigned theme that would carry her through the year.  That night is the designated time when she receives a Father's Blessing giving her that added strength to proceed with an excitingand hopefully is excited to begin another year of her education. 

Last year was Alma 37:35, "Learn Wisdom In Thy Youth," purchased from this artist.

 This year, 7th grade was given the theme of, "Seek Knowledge By The Spirit," stemming from D&C 107:71. They both hang beside her desk in the window as a gentle reminder of the importance of her education.

It makes the start of the  year special for us all. It will be fun to collect many colors over the next several years!

Resemblance for these Third Cousins, Twice Removed?

Synonyms: commonality, common denominator, congruity, correspondence, parallel

Well, it took me years, but I finally sat down and sorted out the connection.   I am able to explain how I am related to Elizabeth Taylor.  Our common ancestor is Johanes Warmbrodt, he is my 4-great grandfather, which is her 2-great grandfather. That makes us third cousins, twice removed. 

The detail is as follows....

7) Johanes Warmbrodt is my great great great great grandfather and he married Elizabeth Graden in 1831 in Switzerland.  Over the next 19 years, they gave birth to 12 children, including Jacob & Samuel. We will come back to Samuel below, but for now, we will follow Jacob through my line.
6) Jacob Warmbrodt, my great great great grandfather, married Elizabeth Harmon in 1860 in Illinois.  Over the next 25 years, they gave birth to 9 children, including George Washington Warmbrodt.
5) George Washington Warmbrodt is my great great grandfather and he married Lucy Almora Williams in 1901 in Kansas.  Over the next 15 years, they gave birth to 4 children, including Ralph Rovela Warmbrodt.
4) Ralph Rovela Warmbrodt is my great grandfather and he married Mable Lorene Davis. They had 2 children, including Philip Ray Warmbrodt Sr.
3) Philip Ray Warmbrodt Sr is my grandfather and he married Vivian Marie Talley.
2) Philip Ray Warmbrodt Jr is my father, he married my mother Dorothy Melissa Rawls on June 12, 1972.
1) Which brings this list to ME, Scheris Lee Warmbrodt Schuring, married to Troy Dean Schuring as of March, 7, 2008.

Now, let's back up to the brothers Jacob and Samuel and explain where Elizabeth comes into the picture.

7) Johanes Warmbrodt, the common ancestor, remember, he had two sons, Jacob & Samuel?
6) Samuel Warmbrodt is Elizabeth's great grandfather and he married Melissa Ann Floria in 1859 in Illinois, about a year prior to his brother's wedding. She died 7 years after having their only child Samuel Sylvester Warmbrodt.
5) Samuel Sylvester Warmbrodt is her grandfather and he married Anna Elizabeth Wilson in 1890 in Kansas.  They had 2 children, including Sara Viola Warmbrodt.
4) Sara Viola Warmbrodt married Francis Lenn Taylor in Kansas in 1926.  They had 2 children; Howard in 1929 and then three years later in 1932, Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor.
3) Elizabeth Taylor died 2011.
2) Her children, 3 birthed, 1 adopted.
1) Her grandchildren total of 9.
0) She has 10 great-grandchildren.

.....and we all lived happily ever after......
